I pride myself on being a good gift giver! So, when my best friend announced she was  getting married in Jamaica in December, I knew my gift had to be nothing short of spectacular! I thought it would be fitting to go with the beach theme and came across these…

Take a look around the rest of the site if you have a friend getting married too! GREAT gifts!

This week we started up with Wandering Wednesday, the Perkins editions! I had a great time there but one thing really disturbed me. Somebody went to go eat inside but while they went in they tied up their dog to a lightpole in the parking lot. Now I know what you’re saying, that I laughed at the duct taped kitty but feel sudden sympathy for this dog. Well you’re right and that’s the way it is. But you can’t deny the fact that this is just a big accident waiting to happen. In fact while I was staring at the poor dog a car came zooming in the parking lot and narrowly missed it. The driver didn’t even see it! Which brings me to my point….IF YOU CAN’T HANDLE A DOG THEN DON’T OWN ONE!!

I could've helped out the dog...but I took a picture instead

I’m usually not picky when it comes to taking pics with stars, but come on, sometimes you just HAVE to get a dreamy picture to capture the moment.  A picture, so perfect, as if you two are the only ones there, and not among a herd of people waiting for the same point-n-shoot photo op.

In my “fantasy pic”, it’s just me and Keith Urban, having a great conversation that just happened to be captured by a photographer:

"Just" Selena 'n' Keith!

"Just" Selena 'n' Keith!

In reality, here’s how the picture really went down:

Will the REAL Keith pic please stand up!

Will the REAL Keith pic please stand up!

….intimate moment, GONE!

Do you blame me?!

Parking Woes

Posted in: Jake

So if you haven’t been listening lately you haven’t heard about the latest dilema at my brand spankin new place. I’ve got neighbors who for some reason think they own the street! It first started with a note on my car asking me to not park in front of their house. Then I parked in front of my own walkway and she came outside and yelled at me. I don’t know what’s with people around here thinking they own a public street. But guess what? YOU DON’T!!

I posted a picture of the parking situation. The first car is mine, and behind it is theirs. Not only do they want me to leave a spot for their white SUV that they can’t even park properly, but also a spot behind it for their other car. IT’S WAR!!

THE STREET OF DOOM!

Jake is like the little boy that cried wolf.  Despite what he says, I am NOT pregnant…yet.

Since Jake’s remarks Friday on The Doc Show, people have been congratulating me with genuine excitment.  A few friends said they were off to buy baby gifts to celebrate the wonderful news.  Poor Ethan; my own husband first heard “the news” as people were high-fiving him at work!  Dontcha think my husband would be privy to the big news before his coworkers!  No one questioned Ethan’s surprise reaction, and who could blame them — everyone wants good news.

I felt so bad having to pop that bubble of excitment.  It was really nice to see people all excited about a baby.  I hope Jake’s joke doesn’t ruin it for the real thing!

Negative people are obnoxious. You seriously can’t find one positive thing about your day? I’m going to put it right out there – I’ve had a few ”off” days recently - I haven’t been able to breathe through my nose which has given me a killer unending migraine. But, for the most part, I try my best to find positives in negative situations. So, instead of complaining, why not shop? Ha!

Searching Amazon.com for the perfect Halloween costume (another blog for tomorrow), I think I finally found it! And as far as I was concerned, entering 16 glorious digits in a tiny white box seemed to be working better than any Excedrine Migraine I had been taking recently. So, there it was, a seemingly perfect cure for my “off day”

… Then Amazon had to go and mess with it! The next screen was the confirmed purchase/ thank you/ recommendation screen… My recommendations – a child’s tv show, pet urine remover and pore refining toner. Really? Even Amazon thinks I’m a loser today… Womp womp womp.

Amazon thinks I'm childish, smell like pee and have big pores!

Sunday while traveling with Michele and Sean, we stopped for a bite to eat and hopped off the Lenox exit. It was about 1:30PM and the parking lot was packed. That’s usually a good sign for a restaurant. We stopped at Bingham’s Restaurant and it looked like the entire town was there and I see why, the food was excellent. Bingham’s is a family restaurant but it seems like everything was homemade. Since we were in a hurry, we had to pass on dessert but almost stopped on the way home from New Milford. If it wasn’t for all of the construction on 81, we would have stopped. It’s funny as much as I love the consistency of chain restaurants, I really enjoy hitting a local restaurant or diner. Believe me, it’s not a home run every time because I have found some real dives over the years while travelling but Bingham’s was well worth the stop.

You would think a weekend in a city like Chicago with 12 crazy girls would lead to trouble. Instead, it offered a great life lesson.

My best friend, Stacy (the one who lives in Nashville), turned 26 last week, so we gathered 12 girls to head “The Windy City” for some shopping and birthday celebration fun. While we were all at dinner Saturday night, we noticed an adorable couple in the corner of the restaurant. Holding hands, laughing, telling stories, the gleam in their eyes made it obvious they were absolutely smitten. It was as though they were in a new relationship but we knew this was not the case because they were both wearing wedding rings… And they were in their early 70s.

Stacy soon excused herself from the table and when she returned, quietly whispered to me that she had paid their bill. The adorable elderly woman made her way over to our table to thank us and exclaimed, “That was nicer than someone giving up their seat on the bus!”

If you want to see 12 girls left speechless, this is the exact way to do it. Saturday night, it was confirmed that my best friend is a kind, thoughtful friend who I can learn great lessons from… One of them being that paying it forward is a great way to thank someone for showing you great things still exist in love and the world.

This afternoon my family and I headed north to New Milford. If you remember back in the summer we did a charity softball game and concert with Steve Azar to raise money for the memorial they were trying to create to honor the six Fallen Soldiers who all died while in combat within a week. Even though it was raining and foggy, it was a beautiful ceremony that touched everyone who attended. There were many great speeches given but the one that touched my family the most was the one from a Mother who lost her son on that day. She read a letter that she wrote to her son and wanted him to take with him to Iraq. Every sentence was a  comparison between him being a little boy and a grown up soldier serving his country. The letter was so powerful. Just as they were about to lift the covers off the six individual Memorials, the rain stopped. My son Sean noticed at the bottom of each memorial which was the Army helmet, gun and boots…the words inscribed “Freedom isn’t Free.” If you’re ever in the area, please stop by and see this amazing Memorial at the armory in New Milford.

Even though I was there with the rest of The Doc Show, I was a man on a mission. I started with a pork barbeque sandwich, followed by a chocolate shake, chocolate pudding and then my wife and son showed up and joined me for  a cheese steak, hot dog and ham and bean soup. Unfortunately, the trip was cut short because the rain moving in…maybe that was a good thing! By the way the local meteorologists said the rain wasn’t due to hit until after 8 that night. They have the best job in the world, being wrong 50% of the time and still getting paid. I’ll lay low for a week and somewhat watch what I eat because I’m back at the Fair next weekend for another live broadcast starting at noon. See you there!
