Ok, I did it! I attempted to battle the Black Friday crowds. Although I ran into a bunch of Froggy fans, I didn’t conquer many deals! Booo! So, this brings us to Cyber Monday – the day where you’re supposed to find great deals online. Still no success on my part. I give up. I can’t find a deal for the life of me.

If you’re like me, check out www.ExtraBux.com. It’s a price matcher that will notify you if the item you purchased goes on sale or is found on another site at a different price. Taking the work out of shopping! I LOVE IT! Good luck!

Had enough turkey leftovers?  Ethan and I broke away from the monotony and feasted on crab, duck, and Angus…oh my!

Chef Dave’s new restaurant, AuRants, is a “separation from the Rest-”  Get it?!
Get it or not, you must get there if you love eclectic food and good beer.  Dave, Teddy and Chris, co-owners of this little haven in Duryea, really know their stuff.  Check out this adventure in fare we sampled last night:

 Duck Cheesesteak!!
Slow roasted duck confit in cahoots with portabella mushrooms, scorched bell peppers, sweet vidalia onions & bound together with smoked gouda cheese sauce then nestled tight in a locally baked agostini philly roll.
You’ll find it hard to eat a run-of-the-mill cheesesteak after you taste this!

 Crab Grilled Cheese
often imitated, never duplicated! this baby is fabricated from pacific blue lump crab meat, artichoke heart, melted garlic paste, muenster cheese, brushed with butter & pan seared

Portabella Wonton Cigars
Finger sized wonton wrappers rolled with sautéed portabella mushroom, sun dried tomato & asiago cheese, pan fried crispy & plated with garlic artichoke hummus

East/West Premium Gold Angus Steak (Venison Medallion also prepared this way!)
sesame seared one side, blackened on the other & complete with jalapeno remoulade, garlic chili paste & fizzled wonton stix

Bacon Smoked Gouda Mac & Cheese
…need I say more!  Ultimate comfort food!!

Exclusive Beer selection complements the food, just to name a few we sampled:
-Bull Frog Oak Aged Old Toad
-Duck Rabbit Wee Heavy
-Franziskaner Hefe-Weise (my favorite!)

We were STUFFED!
Be adventurous and try it yourself…at Half-Off!  AuRants will be Froggy’s half-off NEPA perk, starting Thursday morning at 8, while supplies last.  http://shopping.netsuite.com/s.nl/c.667537/n.2/sc.51/category.1100/.f?partner=P00005

  • So as I sit here on the night before Thanksgiving, I wonder if  our turkey will ever thaw? We purchased him or her (is a turkey a girl or a boy?) on Monday and frozen solid at Gould’s Shur Save. Now I know you have to thaw it out so I put him/her on our three season deck for Monday night and Tuesday, then in to the kitchen sink he/she went in cold water to finish the job. I guess we’ll find out in the morning if the male/female turkey is all thawed out. They tell me rare, a little pink in the center is not a good idea. I guess we’ll do it the right way and even try to cook him/her all the way through. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family! Let me know how you made out…frozen turkey

Well once again my life has had a little speed bump, a very cold speed bump. Yesterday morning my power was shut off because the transfer wasn’t made on the account to my new place. A little something you should know by the way, if you get your power shut off it won’t be turned on until the next day. So after I call the electric company and get it taken care of I had to figure out a way to pass the time. Reading a book was the first thing I did for about a half hour and then take my nap. A funny thing happens when you wake up from an afternoon nap, it’s dark when you wake up!! So here I am with no electricity stumbling around in the dark looking for a candle and a lighter. I finally found it and proceeded to find out what life was like back in the middle ages.  The light (no pun intended) at the end of the tunnel is that finally at 4pm the next day the electric was turned on. And by the way, it was promised to me that it would be turned on by 2 at the latest. Moral of the story, double check everything!!! Or else you’ll freeze to death and read books while doing it.

I learned to use one of these things when the power went out!! Yes that's the actual candle I used

There’s nothing like meeting someone with manners (okay, maybe someone who’s old-fashioned and has manners, but beggars can’t be choosers). I discovered this morning, however, that there is one mannerly thing that actually makes someone else’s life more complicated – door holding. No, really! Think about it!

Here was this morning’s instance… I went to Panera Bread for breakfast (their breakfast sandwich is out of this world!) and on my way out the door, I noticed a woman walking behind me with a cup of coffee in her hands. She was quite a ways behind me but I decided to hold the door anyway. Usually when this happens, people step up their pace nearly falling. In this case, the woman continued her steady pace and veered to the left as though she was going to use the other door. So, I let mine go, which ended up slamming her face. Classy! I think we’ve all been there with the door holding situation, so my advice to you is this – unless someone is directly in front of or behind you, it’s best to let them operate their own door. Otherwise, things just get confusing.
